Latest "Twitter Files" Dump Proves The Russia Hoax Is Like Death And Taxes.
Recalling how one of the most ridiculous hoaxes in American history became one of it biggest.
Benjamin Franklin is famous for, among many other things, remarking that “in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” It likely is time to add to the list of things certain, the Russia Hoax.
While it comes in many forms, the Russia Hoax basically is the notion that Russia hacked the 2016 Presidential Election to install Donald Trump as President. To this day, a majority of Democrats believe that Russian interference changed the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. This after, time and time and time again, it has been proven to be a false narrative completely manufactured by the defeated Hillary Clinton Campaign.
When asked by the MSM how he could lose supposedly the most winnable Election in United States history, Clinton’s 2016 Campaign Manager Robby Mook claimed the loss was caused by Russian Interference. The Press ran with it. Soon thereafter, Democrat politicians started using the talking point. In case you need a refresher on the Russia Hoax hysteria, this one is as good as any:
As with many Leftist hoaxes lately, the Russia Hoax made little logical sense at its outset because one is expected to believe many nonsensical things to believe it. First, you must accept that the Russians prefer a Republican over a Democrat, particularly Hillary of the Russian Reset. Then, the voter must assume that Russians know how to influence American Elections. Apparently, politicians no longer need turn to master political consultants like Karl Rove or David Axelrod, but should turn their attention towards individuals in foreign countries, particularly those that do not engage in democratic elections. Once you have accepted these silly notions, then you must accept that these Russian political actors influenced the 2016 Election on a budget of a few hundred thousand dollars, when over $6.5 Billion was spent during that cycle. Despite making little sense, the Hoax sprang to life and was quickly accepted by the political Elites and the Press.
Since then, the Hoax will not die despite having faced many battles to being the truth to light. For example, it remains after Special Counsel Robert Mueller spent years and millions of taxpayer dollars on an investigation that did not find sufficient evidence that President Donald Trump’s campaign coordinated with Russia to influence the United States’ 2016 election. It lives on, despite not holding up against reasoned investigation such as that by Mueller, because the Elites refuse to accept reality and benefit from it.
The latest test the Russia Hoax has survived is Elon Musk’s publishing inside information from Twitter called the Twitter Files. A recent tranche published by Liberal independent journalist Matt Taibbi revealed that California Congressman Adam Schiff pressured Twitter to ban journalists and others that raised questions about his use of the Russia Hoax from the platform. This is the same Adam Schiff who, as Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, repeatedly told the American people that he had seen “more than circumstantial evidence” that then-President Trump had colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election and was instrumental in the Russia related first Trump impeachment. There was no such evidence, but Schiff repeated the lie for years. We now know that he actively sought to shut down anyone that questioned him about his Russia lies. No matter. The Russia Hoax lives on.
On Thursday, Taibbi reported that top Democrats including Schiff, California Senator Dianne Feinstein and Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal, falsely claimed in 2018 that Russian actors on Twitter were elevating the hashtag #ReleaseTheMemo, referring to the Devin Nunes report about flaws in the Trump-Russia investigation, despite being told directly by Twitter executives that it found no evidence that Russian bots were behind it:
Rather than just let the truth speak for itself, the Democrat narrative machine when into high gear to protect the Russia Hoax. By way of way of many examples, California Congressman Ted Lieu jumped into gear, claiming that Taibbi was “gaslighting”:
The exchange between Taibbi and Lieu went on for some time and is still going. What is revealed is that those propagating the Hoax are not about to let it die, even now many years later. Thus, when Taibbi pointed out in response to Lieu that his claim that the DOJ indicting 12 Russian Intel Officers was itself part of the Hoax, Lieu countered that the DOJ had to drop the case because it might have to reveal State secrets:
Of course, the Justice Department understood that discovery could be weaponized before it sought the indictments. Thus, this could not be a basis for later scrapping the cases. Plainly, the cases were brought to further the false notion that Russians had interfered.
The Taibbi and Lieu exchange provides yet another feature of the Hoax—the opportunity to smear your political opponent without evidence. So, as you can see, Lieu slipped in the unnecessary and baseless claim that Taibbi must be a Russian plant. For this, Taibbi rightly called Lieu “beyond reprehensible.”
Lieu and the Democrats and Mainstream Media figures who have pushed and continue to maintain the Russia Hoax for years are reprehensible. But, if one is fair, you almost cannot blame them because our political culture has rewarded them so handsomely for their lies and deception. Besides hamstringing the Trump administration, getting a Special Counsel appointed that cost the Republicans the 2018 Midterms, supporting a baseless impeachment, no doubt in part causing Trump not to be re-elected, among many, many other things, the Russia Hoax has been the gift that keeps on giving.
Only time will tell if it will continue to. Let us hope that Democrats and the Media will come to their senses. What we know for now, is that, like death and taxes, what is certain is that it just will not die.
