While MSM continues to play up drama of Build Back Better's potential failing, Democrats secretly are gleeful.
If they get even a $500 billion passed, it'll be a victory for Democrats.
Headline after headline in the Legacy Media suggests that Democrats have a lot of infighting over “Build Back Better” and the Bill is in danger of not passing. DO NOT buy it. Secretly, Democrats are gleeful at the expansion of their power in the Bill and its prospects to widen the dependency on government, thereby enhancing their future electoral prospects.
For example, recent reports that BBB has been trimmed down to make it more palatable to “moderates” suggests that the Bill’s scope and reach have been retracted. Nothing could be further from the truth. All of the reductions in the ultimate price-tag of the Bill come from gimmicks, such as shortening the length of their funding from the typical ten years to four or one. The scope and reach of BBB remains intact.
This is a typical trick of Leftists for time immemorial. Ask for $3.5 Trillion, then act disgusted when you have to accept $1.55 Trillion as “compromise.” There is no compromise when all of the items you wanted passed in BBB remain intact—giving the IRS the ability to spy on bank accounts, taking unrealized capital gains, establishing universal pre-K at ages 3-4, funding more environmental initiatives, adding hearing coverage to Medicare, etc. True compromise comes only in the form of not expanding the reach and power of the Federal government, not in accounting gimmicks. No one in Washington seriously believes that, once passed, the Congress, whether controlled by Democrats or Republicans, will not continue to fund universal pre-K for 3 and 4 year olds.
The non-alternative Press should do a better job reporting on the types of new powers the BBB legislation gives the Federal government and less on the supposed drama of the Democrat play actors. Since the distinction between the Democrat Party and the Legacy Media has been blurred to the point of nearly no distinction, they likely won’t. Either way, don’t be deceived by the Democrat propaganda and Media headlines, Build Back Better is alive and well and, at whatever level it ends up passing, Democrats will be thrilled at their success in expanding their power over us and their enriching their donors.
